It has been quite a ride for Keenan Hopson of Prince George this NCAA men’s hockey season.  The third-year Maine Black Bears centre-turned defenseman and his teammates lost 14 games including all 4 against Hockey East rivals Massachusetts. Maine entered the Hockey East Regional playoffs as underdogs to U-Mass. Added to the Black Bears challenge was the loss of the 23 year-old Hopson. An emergency appendectomy sidelined the former Prince George Spruce Kings all-star a week before the regional playdown. Now, the good news, the Maine Black Bears defeated St.Cloud State 4-1, and then beat Massachusetts 3-1 to capture the East Regional Final and a trip to the Frozen Four-NCAA Men’s Hockey championship beginning today in St.Louis. Hopson, who told the Bangor Daily News he is close to 100 percent, is in the Black Bears lineup against Michigan State. North Dakota takes on Boston College in the other semi-final. The Frozen Four final is Saturday.
