Expect a boost in your natural gas bill and electricity bill.
The Province of B.C. is going to move to add a 0.4 percent levy on electricity, natural gas, grid propane and fuel oil that are non-transportation related.
The money collected will be put towards the Innovative Clean Energy Fund (ICE).
The increase is expected to come into effect on the First of July, and will add about $8.00 a year to your total heating and electrical bills.
Although it may seem likely that the north would be paying more, such is not the case says Terasen Gas. Northern homes use less natural gas than their lower mainland counterparts. Terasen says a typical 2,000 square foot home in the north would use about 95 gigajules of natural gas per year, while the same size home in the lower mainland would use about 110.
Better insulation in northern homes cited as one of the reasons why the north would use less fuel even though the climate is colder.
