Over 700 British Columbia charities will benefit from the record $1.7 million raised in the 2006 Provincial Employees Community Services Fund Campaign.

About  10% of that provincial total was raised through the efforts of workers  in the  north.

Run from September through November, the campaign encourages provincial employees to support charities by contributing through their payroll and raising funds through special events - such as singing contests, online auctions and other creative fundraisers such as "Cookies for A Cause" - organized by employee volunteers across the province. The donor can specify which charities the money should go to and funds are spent in the community in which they are raised.

Here are the amounts raised by some of the regions in the  "250"

  • Fraser-Fort George $41,064
  • Bulkley-Nechako $17,082
  • Kitimat-Stikine $4,104
  • Thompson-Nicola $27,911
  • Cariboo $14,773
  • Peace River $7,205
  • Northern Rockies $903
  • Skeena-Queen Charlotte $1,335

The Provincial Employees Community Services Fund (PECSF) has raised over $28 million for B.C. charities since it was started in 1965.
