According to Stats Canada, Canadians were travelling in record numbers for the first three months of this year, and Canada was the destination of choice for record numbers of tourists during that same time period.
Here are some of the numbers
Canadians made more than 5.5 million trips to other countries during the first quarter ,an increase of 7.9% over the same time frame in 2004.
We spent $2.8 billion dollars, that's up 7.4% from the first quarter of 2004.
European trips saw major gains with the number of Canadians visiting Italy during January February and March nearly triple the number who travelled to that country last year during the same period. Stats Canada says Easter celebrations at the Vatican and Pope John Paul's failing health were likely contributing factors.
At the same time, there was a significant increase in the number of tourists coming to Canada, a 16.1% increase over the first quarter of 2004.
