Approximately 10 RCMP officers and a Police Dog Team responded to a report of a man standing and waving a gun on a street corner near the College of New Caledonia last night.

RCMP say the call came from an out-of-town motorist who described the weapon as a silver-coloured pistol.  Staff-Sergeant Jeff McArthur says approximately 10 officers and a Police Dog Services team were dispatched to the area of 20th Avenue and Central Street.

The suspect fled as officers were arriving on-scene and Staff-Sergeant McArthur says the individual did not make his way onto campus property.  It is not known at this time if the College took any lockdown measures, he says that would have been a decision made by CNC.

McArthur says due to heavy foot traffic in the area, the police dog was unable to locate the suspect, described as a thin caucasian male in his early 20’s, wearing a grey T-shirt, blue jeans and a black-and-white baseball cap.

Police do not know if this was a real gun, but are very interested in speaking with the young man.  The investigation continues.

It was just Tuesday afternoon that two young men were arrested near Harwin elementary for allegedly pointing pellet guns at the school. (click here for previous story)
