Pink lines  mark  travel path of vehicle  that  sank in the Nechako River at Vanderhoof this morning

Vanderhoof RCMP are continuing their search for a Richmond man who went missing in the Nechako River in Vanderhoof early this morning following a police pursuit.

Police had stopped two vehicles in a routine road check in that community, when one of the vehicles fled the scene and sped across the Nechako River to the float plane dock in that community.

The vehicle apparently turned off its lights as it slipped into the launch area, and went into the river.

One of the occupants managed to make it to shore after floating down the river for some distance, while a second male , 18 year old Daijit  Sandhu , the driver , a resident of Richmond, failed to surface .

The vehicle had been rented in Surrey .

Today police were searching the river for the vehicle involved but high, turbid water conditions are making that search extremely difficult.

Other details surrounding the incident are expected to be released from Vancouver RCMP headquarters.
