This was a good year for the Prince George Airport Authority.  Here are some of the highlights presented to the Regional District of Fraser Fort George:

  • A record number of passengers, 394,407
  • 1st airport in Western Canada to be designated "Superhost" .
  • development of the 20 year master plan  which will likely be finalzed by the end of June
  • parking lot expansion
  • new lighting and signage
  • Air Canada Jazz will launch it's Calgary service on June 1st
  • Runway expansion plans  are  continuing.

If there was any negative point says Chair Jim Blake, it would be that the Flight Services Station was replaced with an automated  weather system.

On the financial side,  an increase in the airport improvement fee helped boost revenue, but   revenue was also increased  because of  landing fees on flights associated with fire fighting.  There was also revenue  generated through some logging activity on airport lands.

The bottom line?

The airport had revenue of $4.1 million, and  at the end of the day,  wrapped up the fiscal year with a slight surplus of $11 thousand dollars.

So I guess what were saying is once the logs are gone and we have a good year without forest fires the Airport Authority will be losing money.

Airport Improvement Fees must be used for Airport Improvements and cannot be used for any other reason. This means in effect that other Revenues hardly cover expenses.
