The Railway Safety Act Review Advisory Panel  is in Prince George today.

The panel  is conducting a review  of railway  safety  to "determine what will be needed to continue to provide a high level of safety within Canada's rail sector."

Although  those making submissions were to have  pre-registered, observers are  welcome to attend the session  which is being held at the Coast Inn of the North.

Earlier this week, CN's General Manager  of the Mountain Division, Tom Bourgonje,  addressed the Prince George Chamber of Commerce.  "We are  participating actively in the Transportation Minister's  review right now of the  Railway Safety Act, and  we fully support that initiative."

Bourgonje  says  there are high hopes for the review "We are  totally committed to having an outcome of making the railway,  and communities we run through, safer, no doubt about it."

The best way to assure safety is to circumnavigate populated areas. Expansion on First Avenue is not a safety measure; not to mention it further adds to the deterioration of "downtown".
