Another forest industry company has announced a curtailment of production.

Pope & Talbot has announced its sawmills in Fort St James and  Grand Forks will be down for a week.  The market-related production curtailment will start on May 28th in Fort St. James, while Grand Forks will  start its downtime on June 2nd.

At the moment, Canfor’s Plateau sawmill in Vanderhoof is taking downtime.  It isn’t expected to be back on line until the 26th of May.  The planer mill at Plateau has been running for a week and a half for  inventory management purposes.

The lumber market is flooded with product, and the price is at some of the lowest levels seen in years.

The companies are hopeful the curtailments will eat up the existing supply, and  the  help the market return to  favourable  pricing.

Yeah, but the dollar is at its highest since god knows when, so that will hurt the ailing forest industry even more!
Hmmm. No mention of the "at least" 2 week downtime at Tolko Quesnel starting next week.
