As the City of Prince George prepares for  the possibility of flooding,  it has issued a call for volunteers  who  might want to help.

The City is  putting together a registry of volunteer who can help property owners affected by rising river levels to sandbag their homes and to work with emergency social services in helping  people who may be forced out of their homes because of flooding.

Anyone who  would like to   help oout is required to  sign up .  That  is a requirement under the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) quidelines, to ensure volunteers are covered by WorkSafe BC. Registration through PEP also provides volunteers with exemption from civil liability.

If you are interested in  volunteerings,  you must register in person at  the City Hall Service Centre, 1100 Patricia Boulevard during regular office hours from 8:30 to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory holidays).

Volunteers are asked to provide their name, address, phone number(s), email address (if available) age and gender, hours of availability and any past volunteer experience.

There is no flood alert being issued in Prince George at this time. However snow packs are higher than normal and there is a potential for flooding if weather conditions change.
