Are you legally entitled to refuse rental to someone with a criminal record ?

You might want to check with a lawyer before you go getting too brave. There's a lot of differences between "landlord" and "policeman" besides the spelling of them.
Like he said. And as an aside, everyone has rights. Even the bad guys have more rights than even you. Presumably you are all goody two shoes compared to them. (the bad guys)
The renter, beforehand would have to consent to a criminal record search and the information to be handed over to the landlord. Without consent, this would not be legal.
Make everyone with a criminal record live in the backseat of their car, with their family, like on Trailer Park Boys. We could have a special road or parking lot downtown, for them to park.
