Prince George North MLA Pat Bell  presented the City with its share of the traffic  fine revenue for 2006.  The cheque for  $1, 287,487.00 represents a 12% increase in  traffic fine revenue.

The  dollars are a  share of the total money  collected by the Province through traffic fines,  the dollars then  proportioned out  in relation to population.

The money can be spent on anything to do with policing and public safety.

In the case of Prince George, most of the dollars had already been anticipated at budget  time and will be used for policing costs.  The actual cheque is  about $140 thousand more than expected, but there are no immediate plans for the spending of those dollars.

The money could be used for any of a variety of programs  from  Community Policing to expenses related to the design of the new Police station.
