The Inquest into the police shooting death of Ian Bush,    ( in photo at right) was told yesterday by the officer who pulled the trigger, that he never saw a beer bottle which earlier was identified as having Ian Bush’s prints on it.

RCMP Constable Paul Koester testified "This is the first I’ve heard about this , no I never saw a beer bottle in the scuffle."

RCMP Sergeant Chuck Duncan has introduced  the beer bottle  as evidence during his testimony.  The forensic officer testified the bottle had one thumb print on it. That print was located in a downward position on the neck of the bottle. If Koester had not seen the bottle before and it did not play a part in the struggle he had with Bush, the Bush family asked then were did it come from?

At today’s session of the inquest, Dr John Stefanelli will take the stand; he is a pathologist who examined Bush’s body.

Questions have been raised as to where the large bruise located right near Bush’s testicles  came from. Constable Koester testified yesterday he could not remember whether he tried to kick or punch Bush in the testicles, as he was taught to do in police training.

Bush was shot to death  in the Houston RCMP Detcahment on October 29th of 2005.  The 22 year old had been taken into custody for having an open beer in public, and for failing to give his right name to officers.

The stories we are hearing now seem more plausible, but the fact remains that Mr. Bush was unarmed. If he really did have the cop in a choke hold, then that reflects badly on the level of self defence training these rookies receive. As I have stated ad infinitum, the situation would not have gone as far as it did if the police had better, and ongoing hand to hand combat training. To me, they would be far more formidable as martial arts experts than some quaking pencil neck trying to shoot me with the 9 m.m. he/she can barely hold straight in a weaver stance. If they are'nt capable of the physical stuff, then get them to do the paperwork instead, stay in the office. I know that today life is cheap amongst the slimy criminal elements, who pull a knife or gun and use it without regard, and that means a greater chance of injury or death to the officer when entering into unknown situations, but don't you think that these shootings by the police would be reduced if the officers had more confidence and skill?
Remember Kevin St. Arnaud.
metalman.
We'll never forget Kevin. I'm not too sure anymore if it has to do with lack of confidence and skill or if it's just SOME officers think the life of the one who they are losing their power struggle with really doesn't matter. I wish we could have this man: www.B-CAP.orgcome to canada to try to make some sort of impact on our young RCMP.
Remember if like most people, He did not break the law...Attack a officer of the law.....MR BUSH would still be alive...Who is at fault that he is Dead...Mr Bush..If he had stayed sober (twice the legal limit) not attacked a police officer, Not given a false name (why) Lets hear if Mr Bush had a record..For Violence.. Bet he did..
How could you blame "Mr. Bush" for being shot to death? How sad that Ian isn't here to tell his side of the story. Now tell me Mr. Mackenzie that you have never done anything stupid in your life time, tell me that if someone kicked you in the groin that you wouldn't retaliate. And then maybe you can clear up all the other discrepancies, especially regarding the memory lapses. These officers are supposed to be trained to deal with all different situations, so why wasn't this one? Drunk or not this young man didn't deserve to die. How would you feel if that was your child?
For the information of people such as Don Mackenzie;
Bush did not have a record or had ever been charged with any criminal offence , other then that night for not giving his name at the hockey game.He had a previous speeding conviction.
He was not drunk or even impared to a point that the officer felt he was. His blood reading showed that.
Finally , It is the testimony of Constable Koester that Bush Attacked him first. Bush will not be appearing at the coroners inquest to give his side of the story. I am at the inquest and perhaps that is the difference in my comments.
Thanks so much Ben. I hope you will keep us informed.
