S Curve Reviewed, Changes Coming

It may not be a big change, but neighbours say it is a start.
The B.C. Ministry of Transportation has taken another look at the “S” curve about one kilometre south of Willow River on the Upper Fraser Road. (See previous stories 58 Year old Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash and Curve Will Be Reviewed)
This spring, the curve was the scene of two motorcycle accidents, one of which was fatal. Neighbours say the curve is banked the wrong way, and it is not uncommon to see vehicles of all types going off the road at the north end of the curve.
Ministry spokesperson, Jeff Knight says there is a change on the way. “Our engineers reviewed the road and believe the existing reduced speed limit of 60 km per hour is adequate, however, there will be changes to the signage.”
Knight says the signs advising the reduced speed and warning of a winding road will be replaced with larger versions of the same messages. It is hoped the larger versions will attract more attention and drivers will exercise more caution.
The Ministry has not yet received the police report on the accidents so it is not known if excessive speed was a factor in the latest crashes. Nevertheless, the Ministry says the signage will be changed.
Knight says the order for the larger signs has been placed, and the signs are expected to be changed this summer.
