With the  devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina  and her destruction of a significant percentage of the natural gas and oil production in the United States,Terasen Gas is predicting  natural gas prices on this side of the border may have to be boosted by more than anticipated.

Terasen  had been planning to ask the B.C. Utilities Commission to  boost rates by 5-10 %.  That would increase the average homeowners heating bill by about $60.00. Media Relations  Manager Dean Pelkey says it is possible Terasen may request a price hike of 15%  when it goes before the Commission.

Any increase in the price you pay to heat your home, means City Hall will get more cash too.  Right now the City collects 2% of all sales in the form of a "franchise fee".  If the average bill goes up by 15% or $90.00, that means the  residents of Prince George who use natural gas, will be paying an extra $100,000 to City Hall.

Oh sure-sock it to us-and send it south so they can run their air conditioners while we freeze our butts.
Wow, we are surely the great benefactors of a country just waiting to knock us to our knees.
It will stop at the 10%, as it is all a farce anyhow, and then they will let on they did us such a favor!!!
Boy, are we stupid, or what???
THe more money that is gouged from my pension for heating and gasoline just means that local businesses won't be receiving much business from me. Got to get your priorities right. Food and shelter come first then what's left goes for entertainment and big boys toys. Not going to be much left for dining out either. My bottom line is not looking very well
I say the increase is not justified based on local conditions and that it should not be approved. If the Americans don't like the deal then maybe they will have to re-evaluate their own situation.

The gouging is actually class warfare and industrial economic warfare between industries that ultimately is a system that promotes fascism.

On the plus side BC should have some degree of insulation from the full effects of this with things like Canfor getting their energy needs from wood waste, and the rest of BC's electricity comming from hydro.

We should recognize this asset and not sell it to Accenture or others, but instead utilize it on our behalf in the fight against the global fascist interests that would choke us to death with their petro taxes.

Its harsh, but I believe its the truth.
i am begining to think the pine beetle may have a good side. i for one will be reinstalling may wood stove and from what i can see there is plenty of fuel ready to be cut and piled.
