Prince George RCMP say  several vehicles were southbound on Foothills this morning  around 7:22.  The vehicles were changing positions as they approached the merge lane south of North Nechako Road.   A motorcyclist behind the group decided to pass the pack, but was cut off by one of the vehicles.

The Biker was forced into the northbound lane where he dropped the bike.  He and the bike slid into the driver’s side rear wheel of a heavy pickup truck pulling a utility trailer.  The force of the collision so powerful it knocked the differential off, and twisted the rear axle.

Miraculously, the driver of the motorcycle got up and walked around.  He has since been taken to hospital to be checked for possible injuries.

Police say the rider was wearing very good gear, a good helmet,   Ballistic jacket, and good riding pants.

The investigation continues, and there has been no decision yet on possible charges.

I passed that scene at 7:25 this morning, just as the police & ambulances were arriving. It's a wonder that motorcyclist wasn't seriously hurt or killed. I for one was quite relieved to see that it was gasoline on the road under the bike and not blood. Sure shows what a difference riding with good gear makes, it would have been a whole different story if the rider had been in shorts & sandals.
In shorts and sandals he would have had some frosty bits this morning. Bikers get cut off all the time by oblivious cage drivers, munching their breakfast, talking on the cell phone, applying make up, and sometimes all at once! If ever there was a case for defensive driving, it is when you are riding a motorcycle. You have to assume that the non bikers do not see you. Of course, he may have been in the cage drivers blind spot, but I doubt it. Anybody smart enought to wear the right protective gear probably does not ride in other peoples' blind spot. A common response: 'I did'nt see him'

Anyone smart enough to wear the right protective gear?????

How about smart enough to not try and pass a long line of three thousand pound vehicles going down hill on a 500 lb jet with feeble brakes?
Was he really riding a jet? wow. that guy must have some big latungas. Now, a crotch rocket, theres the real ticket. But just one thing, any street motorcycle sold in Canada since oh, about 1985, has great brakes. If his bike was a newer sport model from Japan or Italy, they have FANTASTIC brakes. 'Feeble brakes' only applies to certain Harley Davidson models, but in their case, 'rocket' or 'jet' is not in the vocabulary. As always, I am commenting on what was written, and have no other knowledge of the situation. With all due respect to journalists, they quite frequently write authoritatively on subjects they have little knowledge about.
Thus, we read their version of events. And, Runner46, it sounds like you blame the rider, or are inferring that he is not smart.
How much do you know about what really happened out there?
Why not fault the one who cut off the biker? It sounds as though he/she 'did'nt see him' was probably changing lanes at the same time as checking the mirror, I see it happen every day, like this: The vehicle suddenly begins to drift into the other lane, and then the signal light comes on, usually just one or two blinks, and then you see them look in the mirror, as their vehicle moves into the lane. They then see that they have cut you off, and either swerve back into the recently vacated lane, or more frequently, speed up, as if to try and get away from you.
Grrr.
