Telkwa and Smithers Still In Deep Water

The Skeena is still raging, the Fraser is high, but both rivers are not expected to see any further icrease in their flows unless there is a major change in weather.
Not so for the Bulkley.
In Telkwa and Smithers, the Bulkley is raging. A total of 39 homes are either on evacuation alert, or have been ordered to be evacuated.
Provincial Emergency Program reps have been advising people to stay away from the river banks as it is difficult to see what kind of damage the river is doing to the bank beneath the water. In the case of this bank along the Bulkley, caution tape has been set up because of the obvious instability of the bank ( submitted photo)
Sandbagging has been the order of the week in Telkwa and in Smithers. The Provincial Emergency Program says it has shipped 4 million sandbags throughout the province, including 170 thousand to the northwest.
The Provincial Emergency program also indicates there is a barge ready to head to Prince Rupert with whatever supplies are needed, however that is little consolation to some trucking companies which complain there are already shortages in Kitimat, and there is no land link between Terrace and Prince Rupert because of flooding.
One trucking company reports there are fuel shortages in Kitimat, and there are concerns people may be hoarding supplies.
