Pacific Northern Gas is trying to make a temporary repair to its natural gas line that was ruptured by the  powerful  Skeena  River  over the weekend.

The line was taken out about 50 kilometres west of Terrace on Saturday.

Tom Leach of Pacific Northern Gas says crews have since been able to get to the   site and a temporary line is being put in place until permanent repairs can  be made.  He says there was sufficient gas in the line to keep Prince Rupert up and running.

“There has been no disruption of service to Pacific Northern Gas customers” says Leach.

Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond says this isn’t the first time the City has had a natural gas issue.  There was a rock slide in the middle of winter one year that took out the line.
