Kwanika - Another Potential Gold Mine

It is called Kwanika, and it  is another mineral discovery site that  could be  great news for  the central interior.

Located to the north west of   Mount Milligan, the  discovery of the gold and copper deposits was made possible using new technology.  This is the same technology that will be used to map  the  corridor between Williams Lake and Mackenzie with hopes of  making new  mineral  discoveries  that could possibly be developed into  mines.

Kwanika was discovered by the exploration company, Serengeti Resources.  David Caulfield,  the past President of the Association  of Mine Exploration says  exploration projects like  Serengeti’s are  already having a positive impact on the  economy "The CEO, David Moore, told me that from August of last year, to the end of this year they will have spent $8 million dollars on that project."

Caulfield  says the unique thing about this discovery is  that it is what he refers to as "blind"   "The ore body is actually under a logging road that people have been driving on for years and years, and geoscience led to this discovery."  Caulfield says the  new  geoscience  project announced yesterday (see previous story) will  result in more  discoveries, "Keep tuned for the next few years because this program will turn out a lot of economic activity in the area."

Used to be called Wild Cat drilling in the oil business. Now they are finding yellow gold!
It has long been known that there was gold in them thar hills!
This isn't exactly ground breaking news.
Unfortunatley,it is hard to get excited considering the redtape, time lags, expense, and market conditions involved to actually bring a mine into production.
To say nothing of native land claims and enviromental issues that must be dealt with.
Mt.Milligan is a prime example.
A couple of years away from actually mining, and already tied up by all of the issues above.
While mining is a viable option for this neck of the woods,it really is just a pipe dream so far to any great extent.
Strong leadership is needed here to make mining the priority it should be.
So who is dealing with THAT part of it.
