“Here they come.... the boys in the bright white sports car.....waiving their arms in the air.... who do they think they are.... and where did they get that car......”
And so it goes, as do the pretentious (or so it would appear) Ottawa Renegades, following the events of the past three weeks to include their 41-18 pummeling...a humbling experience last game against the Allouettes.
Since Aug. 19 Ottawa has lost two with a week off and were outscored 79-35. The Gades season numbers overall are respectable but falling off.
Do these guys have anything left in their bag of tricks as they play host to a team in the BC Lions, who despite the occasional cranial collapse have managed to keep their season record unblemished?
The Lions are enjoying their best start since coming into the league, including 12 straight victories extending into last season, putting them in 3rd place over the history of the CFL.
With their return to earth, this is not the “little break” in the form of a laid back, mind bending retreat to some extravagant, unaccessible mountain resort that the doctor had ordered for the Gades....... a place where they could lavish in eating peeled grapes and guzzling Okanagan wine.
Indeed what should be kept in mind as we try to understand the fortunes of this spiraling football franchise, might just be that most of the time a long unforgiving CFL season has a way of eventually bringing reality to the playing field to include sorting out the pretenders from the pack.
For Ottawa, this contest could well be the dawning of the night if they don’t play skunk at a pool party and steal a win against the Leos.
The Renegades enter the game with a record of 5-5.....244 points for and 285 against. The Lions are 9-0 scoring 284 points and allowing 200.
In the Gades favor, supposedly what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger?
