School District 57 Trustee Bill Christie, is leaving Prince George.

After more than a dozen years as a Trustee in Prince George, and half of that time as Chairman, Bill and his wife Terry have decided to move to Red Deer.

“This was a very difficult decision to make” says Christie.  “We have so many wonderful friends in Prince George, but our family is in the Red Deer area, and I would truly love to be part of my grandson’s growing up.”

Christie says the Board will not have to have a by-election as he will max out his term.

Tonight’s meeting is the last of this school year, the next meeting will be in September, and Christie will return for that session.  He says he will be back for the October and November meetings as well, and will likely attend the December meeting by teleconference.  His efforts to be part of the meetings mean the Board will not be forced to hold a by-election as the next general election will be in 2008.

He says he will  continue with his committee work and  follow through on all other committments.

Christie and his wife were contemplating the move last December,  that is why he chose not to run for re-election as the Board Chair in the annual December executive selection vote.

The past year has seen Christie recognized for his public service.  He was honoured by the BC School Trustees for his many years of service, and was awarded the BC. Community Achievement Award by Premier Gordon Campbell.

Although the Christie's have lived in several B.C. communities over the years, this will be the first time Bill has made a home in a province other than B.C. "For my wife, she will have gone full circle, as she was from Red Deer, and  she is going home."

Christie says his son has married a  gal from Sylvan Lake, his daughter is living in Calgary, so the  plan to live in Red Deer  will bring  all of the family closer together.

Bill presented Board Chair Lyn Hall with a Robert Sebastian print as a  good-bye gift.

The movers will  be at the Christie home tomorrow, Bill and his wife Terry will  head out on Thursday.

The city loses a good man. I wish him the best of luck in Red Deer.
I was hoping he would stick around and run for Mayor. Oh well.

Once again. Once the job is finished people leave this burg.
