The mother of murder victim Aielah Saric-Auger is planning an 800-kilometre ‘Healing Walk’ along Highway 16 from Prince Rupert to Prince George.

14-year-old Aielah Saric-Auger went missing from Prince George in February of 2006.  The body of the DP Todd student was discovered one week later on Highway 16-East, near Tabor Mountain.  The teen is one of 11 women who have gone missing or been murdered along the so-called ‘Highway of Tears’ since 1990.

Audrey Auger says, “Through the loss of my baby girl, I have decided to do a Healing Walk to not only help find myself, but to give awareness to the communities along Highway 16 and nationwide.”

Auger says she will be joined on her journey by a group of young adults and teens, “in dedication/remembrance to all the families who are experiencing the same pain I am right now.”

Auger plans to begin her walk on Sunday, Canada Day, in Prince Rupert.  She plans to walk daily from sunrise to sunset and says the participants are “aware of the obstacles we may face spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.”  The group plans to camp alongside Highway 16 en route to Prince George.

Auger is seeking donations, through Carrier Sekani Family Services, for supplies needed for the trek.  Anyone needing more information can contact Highway of Tears Coordinator Lisa Krebs at 614-3168 or Sheldon Bjorklund at 562-6555.

What a good idea...I wish this mother the best in her healing. Awareness to others is the key.
