Prince George’s newest hotel is open for business.

The Four Points by Sheraton Prince George  is now  officially open.  It features 74 rooms, a fitness facility, business centre, and more than 560 square feet of meeting space.

In addition, the hotel has the “Blackwater Lounge” which will serve what the hotel calls “comfortable favourites” for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

"The staff of this beautiful, newly built hotel is ready to provide the friendly and down-to-earth service that the Four Points by Sheraton brand stands for," said Sandy Swider, vice president, Four Points by Sheraton. “Quality amenities our guests need plus our Simple Pleasures program will provide a unique hotel experience for travelers to central and northern British Columbia. We are excited to have a hotel in this community."

Located   on the north side of Highway 97  across from the Treasure Cove Casino, the  hotel is one of  5 hotels in the  16-97  four corners area. The Four Points is next to the 97 Motor Inn, and  just half a block from the Carmel Inn.    On the other side of highway 97 is  the Treasure Cove, and one more  hotel  is under construction.

That  new hotel will be the Sandman Hotel.    It will be located on Highway 16 West, on lands which used to be part of Recreation Place.  That project is to be a 4 storey, 180 room facility with two restaurants.  One of the restaurants will be a Denny’s, the other will be either a “Shark Club”, or a new line called “The Clubhouse”.  The hotel is expected to be similar, but larger, than its sister hotel in Quesnel.  The new Sandman will also offer a banquet hall and two meeting rooms.

The Four Points took forever to get finished, years.

I was amazed at how deep the pockets were to have all that capital tied up for that long with no income.

I don't know if the city was trying to break the project or if it was something else?
"...and more than 560 square feet of meeting space."

Welcome to my garage, which has about the same square footage.

This Hotel apparently changed hands a few times before it was finished.

With all the new hotels I suspect the Inn and Ramada will start to feel the pinch.
My information is that the developer chose to build it using house builders instead of commercial contractors. Trying to do things on the cheap and ended up being more expensive I would think.

Looks reasonable on the outside. The proof in the pudding will be how well it will look in 5 to 10 years.
Anyone thinking about a "no left turn lane"? I do. No casino on that side of the highway. Maybe Sheraton might have some pull with the good ol' highwazys dept. We will see.
Deep pockets this person did not have, but looks like it is "really" open.

I can now breath again. Bet it is on the market for sale one year from now.
The other two hotels on that side of the highway seem to be doing alright.

I do agree that a left turn capacity should be provided for traffic driving HWY 97 south.

I think it can be done by dropping an exit lane from the Hwy in front of teh Casino towards the east to drop down to Upland.

From there, traffic can hang a left under the overpass, then hang a right on St Laurent Avenue to the north of the hotel.

Even better would be to extend Ford Ave (the service road for the commercial development on the north of Hwy 97) to Upland (drops down as well).

If that intersection with Upland gets too busy, it could be signalized. That way the highway would be safer. In fact, the existing turning slot could be removed.
