The public hearing for the  Treasure Cove Casino’s request to increase the number of slot machines,  is set for Monday night at Prince George City Council.

City Clerk Don Schaffer says only two written submissions were received by the initial deadline of noon Tuesday.   Some have  complained to Opinion 250 that the deadline was too fast, given the  fact  it  fell right after a long weekend and the public hearing was only approved on Thursday night.

“We try to give as much notice as possible for public involvement while still being respectful of the developers needs” says Schaffer.  The ad announcing the public hearing was visible Saturday and Tuesday “The matter was all over the news on Friday” says Schaffer.  He says under the Municipal Act, the City only has to give three days notice of a public hearing.

Although one deadline has passed, Schaffer says written materials that came in after that Tuesday deadline will be distributed to Council as a handout at the meeting on Monday night.

The public hearing is to hear a request from Treasure Cove Casino to increase the number of slot machines from 400 to 575.   The  extras would be  put into the area currently used as a show lounge and a new show lounge will be built.

So that's how John is getting the money to buy the Day's Inn!

Lucky thing John isn't into liquor or cigarettes, the city would have made John wait months for a hearing. Gambling just seems to have no obvious physical effects. You can't tell when people have lost the family home, and so what? There is always the old liquor store to sleep in. Heehee!
