Fan in doorway helps ventilate upper floor residence on 5th Avenue

A burning saucepan prompted a call to Prince George Fire Rescue this afternoon, when flames made their way into the fan above the stove.

Tenants of the duplex suite at 3725 5th Avenue called the fire department just before 4pm this afternoon.

Captain Terry Gladesdahl says that occupants had already used a dry chemical extinguisher on the blaze by the time crews arrived and he says that went a long ways towards keeping the damage to a minimum.  Gladesdahl says fire fighters were able to contain and extinguish the blaze before it made its way into the roof.

Still, he pegs the damage estimate in the neighbourhood of $20-thousand dollars - with some cupboards burned and moderate smoke damage.
