Merritt's population has swelled this weekend from 7500 to more than 150-thousand people, as country music fans converged on the interior city for its annual Music Festival.

RCMP spokesperson, Constable Annie Linteau, says anytime a city experiences such dramatic surge, a corresponding surge in calls to police is expected.

However, Linteau says Merritt RCMP are pleased to say they're truly impressed by the country music fans.  Linteau says, "There has been, so far, no significant police complaints associated with the Merritt Mountain Music Festival to deal with."

She say there were 30 individuals lodged in cells last night for alcohol-related offences, police assisted the festival’s on site security in evicting a handful of problem attendees, issued 7 24-hours suspensions and processed two suspected impaired drivers.

Linteau says Merritt RCMP have an enhanced police presence for the duration of the festival and are prepared for any situation that may arise. Police’s priority is to ensure the safety of all residents of the City of Merritt, residents of surrounding communities as well as visitors.

"Merritt's population has swelled this weekend from 7500 to more than 150-thousand people"

I really doubt that is the case.

The 150,000 is an aggregate attendance which is at about the level which it has been doing for the last few years. The aggregate is the total daily attendance added up. Thus, a 4 day festival with an average daily attendance of 37,500 would have an aggregate attendance of 150,00.

The logistics for a 37,500 people per day festival are substantially different than the logists for a 150,000 people per day festival.
Good to hear.
