The seven-time Western Speedway champion, #06 Tim Christy of Victoria was the winner of the Central Builders 100 at PGARA last night.

Christy came from near the back of the field of cars, after qualifying 4th, and wove through to near the front, but it was #18 Korbin Thomas of Williams Lake who held the lead until lap 92 when he brushed the back straight wall and then went hard into the turn 3 wall, leaving the race with a badly damaged CP Electronics Monte Carlo.

With 8 laps to go and a single file restart with #06 Christy on the point, the green flag waved and some exciting racing ensued as the the #27 Mark Berriau of Penticton hounded Christy, nipping at his heels hoping for a slip or a  slide that would allow him to pass to the lead. Behind them the Smith n’ Gordon #1 Bart Smith of Victoria was in 3rd waiting to pounce on an opportunity to capture a win if the first two cars spun each other out.

The three cars raced clean and close that way until the checkered flag dropped for the first win for the Natural Pak #06 Tim Christy in the 2007 tour.

In post race discussion in the winner’s circle Christy said he was sweating so hard from the heat of the night’s event that his radio earplugs had slipped and so he could talk to his crew but he could not hear them telling him how close the  #27 Berriau was behind.

The next event in the Katana Powerboats Stockcar Series will be in Penticton on the August long weekend during the Gord Mannes Memorial race event at Penticton Speedway.
