Forest Fire Season Sizzling

Lightning over the weekend, sparked 100 new fires in the Prince George Fire Centre, and more fire starts are expected.

The largest blaze is in the La Salle Lakes areas, and is 220 hectares in size.  There are more than 40 firefighters on the scene.  The smoke from this fire  (which is about 6.3 kilometres south east of Crescent Spur) is visible to drivers along Highway 16 east especially in the evening. Traffic control will be put in place to help the traffic flow.

Four 20 person crews, and four 3 person initial attack teams  from the Coastal and Northwest Fire Centres  have joined  local contract crews in  fire suppression  activities.
