Prince George RCMP have released the name of the teen who drowned in West Lake earlier this week.

The victim has been identified as 17 year old  Alexander Robert MacDonald of Prince George.

The teen succumbed to the water after getting into some difficulty while swimming.   A friend tri,ed  but failed, in his effort to rescue the teen.

Search and rescue officials tried all night to  find the 17 year old, but it wasn't until the RCMP dive team arrived the next day that  Alexander's body was pulled from the lake.

At the time, police said  the teen was not a strong swimmer.  The family says that is not so, that they spent a great deal of time at the lake, and Alexander had taken swimming lessons.
