There are five  public hearings on the agenda for Prince George City Council this evening.

The most controversial is expected to be the application to rezone a piece of property  at the corner of Chief Lake Road and  Foothills Boulevard.  The applicants want to  build a neighbourhood pub that  would  seat 95 patrons inside,  another 20 on a patio.   This item had initially  been proposed for  a public hearing just after the long weekend in May, but was withdrawn.

Also  up for a public hearing;

  • a proposal to  rezone property on the west side of Cowart Road for the development  of 85 townhomes,
  • an application to  rezone three lots on 10th Avenue for the construction of Victorian style homes,
  • an application to  rezone 3.82 hectares on Sturgeon  at North Nechako for the devellopment of 26 residential lots
  • an application to  rezone  to rsidential, a lot on Vance Road.

One of the other  matters to come before Council this evening is what to do about the  vandalized Terry Fox statue.   Staff will present two options to Council, one would  see the statue recast in bronze at a cost of  $23 thousand,  the other would have it redone in fiberglass at a cost of $5-$6 thousand dollars.

What a waste of time. Administration tells (recommends) the council how to vote, and the councillors do the rubber stamp duty.

Council should have one more option for our Venetian statue - get rid of it and save the money. I guess administration must want to have it up. It's probably a municipal doodad where all city administrators have a Terry Fox thing around somewhere. Move the statue over to the graveyard entrance, paid for by taxpayers of course.
Recast the Terry Fox statue and put it indoors where it is protected from vandalism:

the Art Gallery, CN Centre entrance, in the Airport waiting lounge area, City Hall or some other high visibility guarded location.

Outside it will only be attacked again by some semi-illiterate moron(s).
An armed guard with a mounted gattling gun comes to mind to protect our property. Drunk or not, mow em down. Eventually, the problem will cease. Chester
The common sense thing would be to put the statue in the Civic Centre,lots of room there, however this facility is rarely used so no one would see it.

Another location would be to have it in the Coliseum at least then the young people who go skating would see it.

It could be mounted above the Entrance to the swimming pool. This would not be far from where it presenlty stands, and would be out of harms way, but still viewed by the same number of people.
