No date has been set for a Coroner's Inquest into the police shooting death of 43 year old Donald Dwayne Lewis. He was shot to death in August of last year.

Coroner Shane DeMeyer says he will hear the inquest but the dates have not yet been finalized. Lewis was an American citizen who was deported on February 26th, 2006. He was married to a Canadian Citizen and had been living in the Whistler area for some time.

At the time of the shooting, residents of McLeese Lake  who were listening to police scanners  said they first heard an RCMP officer say that he had a man handcuffed to a tree, and then later he radioed for an ambulance and then asked that the coroner’s service be called.

The officer in question suffered a broken hand and head injuries, he was taken to hospital in Williams Lake, treated and released.

Police had been called to the area after a complaint was filed that a man was camping at the end of a road in the McLeese Lake area.

Delta police where called in to investigate the matter

These situations call for two officers to attend in all cases IMO. When you bust into a guys camp kick out his fire and causing grief, than it only makes sense to have a witness present because it is bound to result in conflict. That said another case of a dead man and the RCMP's word against a dead mans on what actually happened.
Why do these inquests always take so long?
Are they hoping the time factor will make people forget about it?
Just saw one where it took almost 8 years for an inquest into the death of a child!
That's just plain wrong.
Hi Andy, "That's just plain wrong."

I totally agree. :(

And I think 'the time factor' is a big thing.
