Fans of the television series The Simpsons packed into Famous Players theatre yesterday for the premiere of The Simpsons Movie. The film, which features the cartoon family in their first full-length movie, is also the first time Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie have appeared outside the small screen.

The Simpsons began in 1987 as a series of animated shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show before moving to the Fox network and their current half-hour format. Over 18 seasons and 400 episodes later, The Simpsons have become one of the world's most recognizable families, as well as becoming the longest running sitcom of all time.

The Simpsons Movie runs just over an hour and a half, and is chock full of the zany humor and up-to-the-minute satire that fans of the series have come to expect. The film's premiere follows a month of promotions, which included turning a dozen 7-11 stores into Kwik-E-Marts, complete with items from the show such as Squishees, Buzz Cola and Krusty-Os.
