Peter Newman’s book of interviews with former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney only serves to tell the people of this side of the country just what Mulroney thought about us.
Mulroney said we could stuff it, not surprising given what took place back in the late 80’s and early nineties.
Mulroney set aside a special chapter for former Prime Minister Kim Campbell who he said blew it in her bid to become a Canadian Prime Minister from the west.
What he may have neglected to tell Newman, was that his popularity was in the tank when he was expecting Campbell to save the party. She did go on to win only two seats in that election and completely wiped out the Conservative party. The death however can be squarely set at the foot of Brian Mulroney.
During Mulroney’s final days in office, a group of us were up to our arm pits trying to do something with the Kemano diversion.
Alongside one of the memos from the Federal Fisheries, was the notation "talk to BM". I believe Mulroney had influence on matters dealing with Alcan.
Those initials sure as hell didn't stand for "Ben Meisner" and the company got everything that it wanted from fisheries, so that left the question out there of just who was calling the shots?
When he was first elected to office I interviewed Mulroney a couple of times. I always thought that he came off arrogant, as a man who thought only about himself and those very, very close to him.. The book sheds just more light on all that.
I’m Meisner and that is one man’s opinion.
