July Warmer than Normal....No Kidding!

It may be hard to believe but July in Prince George was actually warmer than normal. In fact, Jim Steele of Environment Canada says it ranks among the top five warm July's on record! It was that hot spell that tipped everything into the better than normal range.
Here is Jim Steele's report:

Warmest Day
35.6 on the 13th. This surpasses the previous hottest temperature recorded in July of 34.4 set on July 27/98 and July 13/61. Hottest temperature ever in Prince George still remains at 36.0 set on May 29/83.
Coolest Day
3.7 on the 1st
PRECIPITATION
Total Monthly Precipitation 35.3 mm Normal 63.5
Greatest rainfall in 24 hours 9.6 mm on the 29th .

SUMMARY
July got off to a bit of a slow start with temperatures close to normal however showers on the first 4 days of the month. Conditions dried out for the next 10 days as temperatures began to climb to record levels. Daily temperatures records were established on 3 consecutive days between the 12th and 14th with the 13th standing out as the warmest day ever recorded in the month of July since records began back in 1942.
That didn't last though, as the cool system moved in on the18th resulting in precipitation on 6 consecutive days. Thunderstorms were a common occurrence with storms rumbling through the area, however not totally unusual for July. Temperatures warmed up for a few days between the 25th and 28th before cooling once again to round out the month.
In the end, the big hot spell resulted in the monthly average temperatures coming in a degree and a half above the normal for July.
Precipitation for the month came in bursts with the first few days of the month and the last two weeks of the month seeing the majority of the rainfall. Precipitation was recorded on 13 days, just shy of the typical 14 for the month. In the end, the precipitation was still well below normal with just over 35 mm being recorded, well short of the typical 63.5 mm.
