CN workers say the collision of two CN trains in the City of Prince George across the Fraser River from Paddle Wheel Park and a major populated area of Prince George,  was  the result of one of the trains becoming a "runaway" after its brakes had failed.

Both Locomotives were being operated by management according to Opinion 250 sources. The one train went through the PP zone, the description of the danger zone, at the north end of the old BC Rail yard due to the inability of the train to stop. The allegation is that the train had too many cars attached on it to be able to brake and the brakes failed at that point sending the whole train into a collision with the other.

Jim Feeny, spokesman for CN Rail says he cannot confirm any of the allegations that the train lost its brakes and went out of control. Feeny does say however that the two trains collided in what he described as a "sideswipe" as one of the two trains hit  the other 13 or 14 cars back of the engine.

"As to any other allegations dealing with who was operating the trains and the circumstances surrounding the collision, it is all part of the on going investigation" says  Feeny.

CN has investigators on the scene and has flown a helicopeter over the site twice.  Transport Canada  officials are also on the scene conducting their own investigation.

CN Rail has its environmental unit on the scene and has set up booms in the river to contain any possible spill of fuel although  officials  believe  any spill would be minimal.

Clearly we can see in the last few years CN has a problem with safety. Hopefully something is done about it before it's too late.
On the positive side the derailment occured in front of 75 000 people in a dramatic way with a big fire.
Maybe this will draw more attention to CN safety.
On a side note Global Edmonton did'nt mention the accident so what else is happening with this company that we don't hear about.
After reading this story I really feel a whole lot safer and at ease knowing that CN has flown a helicopter over the site twice. These guys at CN have noticed how the politicos do it I guess.
Is a university degree all that is needed to be management at CN? If management was at the "helm" of these or one of these trains. Aye aye, matey. I said "helm". Avast ye swabs, I was at a loss fer a word.
Cool being a manager at CN. They give you a $5 million dollar RC train set to play with.
The union seems to be unusually silent during all of this. What do they have to say? Chester
