Attempt to Stick Up Cabbie Foiled

Prince George RCMP say a 34 year old man is in custody facing charges after someone tried to rob a cab driver just before noon today.

Police say the PG Taxi driver was dropping off a fare at the First Litre Pub on Strathcona when the male passenger opened the door to the cab, got partially out of the vehicle, pulled a knife, and demanded money.

The cab driver put the cab into reverse, causing the would be robber to leave the cab and take off on foot. The cabbie followed the suspect to the area of Victoria and 20th and from there a police dog pick up the scent and followed it to the 2100 block of Redwood.

A suspect was located in an apartment.

A 34 year old man now faces robbery related charges. There was also an outstanding warrant for the man's arrest.

should have run him over. would'a saved us all some hard earned $$$$. Guess we'll all contribute to housing him for a short time and then we'll continue paying for his sorry ass when he gets out (a naive assumption that he gets a jail sentence) and starts committing more crimes.

Had the cab driver run over the robber - even if it was accidentally - he would have ruined the rest of his own life by a possible lawsuit and countless other aggravations, I am sure.

Pulled a knife? Sounds like self defense to me. People are getting sick and tired of being bullied by these creeps and low lifes who do it just because they know they can get away with it. Our justice system better get it figured out before some would be vig on a testosterone or pee-emess'ing high accidently hurts someone who is actually "innocent". Knife in hand equals "fist in throat" no doubt, but fear and anger have been known to cause temporary blindness and a shortage of rational willfull thinking. Just my opinion
