The Lions are making tonight's game a special charity event, donating $2.00 from every ticket sold to the Red Cross Relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina's victims. Also, Quarterback Dave Dickenson has pledged $500.00 to the Red Cross for every touchdown pass he completes tonight!
Montreal Alouettes seek to solve this developing Lions paradigm
-by John Goodwin
The Als take to the field at BC Place Stadium well rested following a bye week, with a record of 5 and 5 vs. a red hot Lions team at 10 and 0.
Montreal enters this game having scored a respectable 333 points vs. the Lions number one standing at 345. This largely thanks to a 61 point blitzing by BC of the Ottawa Renegades last Thursday, a team who simply drew short straw by having to get into the face of a collection of
hard charging football phenoms’ on a mission.
The Alouette defense has allowed 293 points, a weak link in their chain, sitting at 6th overall (out of 9) vs. the Lions # one standing, giving up a stingy 227 points in 10 games. This isn’t a good match-up for the Als if the Leos come out hard and “again” light up the scoreboard.
Montreal has won only one of their last 3 games, the 2 points earned at the expense of these same hapless Ottawa Renegades 2 weeks ago.
The Leos are coming off their most lopsided game of the season and have been rewarded by virtue of their domination of last weeks CFL player of the week awards. Aaron Lockett took special team honors with his dazzling dips and dives through Ottawa tacklers to accumulate a
seasons worth of yardage running back Renegade punting and kick-offs to include a 90 yard touchdown.
Meanwhile Ryan Thelwell earned top offensive player recognition, scoring 2 touchdowns in that game and also piling up the killometerage.
DB Barron Miles was defensive player of the week following his impact performance vs. Ottawa.
An aside:
For those who watched it, the Edmonton Eskimos were served up a measured dose of reality this past week. I was truly impressed with a well crafted Calgary Stampeder victory over an inept (tied for second place) Rickey Ray lead befuddled Esk team, and while it would be a daunting
task it appears at this point that an undefeated season is totally in the hands of this powerhouse Lions franchise to lose.
On similar note to squander the West title at this point, the Leos would have to drop 4 of their last 8 games including two losses to the Esks in Edmonton, while the Eskimos go undefeated in the remainder of their schedule.
Can’t see around corners and haven’t tuned in the weather channel today, but has hell frozen over?
The BC Lions are undisputed best of breed at this point...a clear cut above the field.
I have followed this team through some good, as well as bloody awful, seasons since becoming
interested in CFL football way back in 1963, and this one so far has been nothing less than
magical.
(no t.v coverage on this one, but game time is 7p.m. you can pick up the audio of the game on the B.C. Lions Website www.bclions.com )
