The architectural rendering of the Northern Sports Centre

Just 30 more days until the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre officially opens in Prince George.

The $31.6 million dollar facility will officially open on the 21st of September, but the Centre  has already issued a call for specific staff needs.

The following two ads  are posted on the  Northern Sport Centre site:

 1)  Instructors Needed (PDF) - Personal Trainers, Fitness Instructors, Specialty Fitness Trainers, Dance Instructors, Martial Arts Instructors, Recreation Instructors.

2)  UNBC Student Employment (PDF) - Fitness Assistants for: Customer Service Reception Desk and Sport Equipment. UNBC Student Application Form (PDF)

The  construction of the new facility is winding down, and  interior finishing is the  focus of most efforts.  The  track has been laid, the turf  installed,  even the  sidewalk  is being finished off.

Below left, the  basketball courts before the floors  and finishing (photo opinion250 archive).   At right, the  painting  of the lines on the floor of the basketball courts (photo courtesy UNBC).  The bright spots  visible in the  left of the photo at left, are the  two sets of double doors  in the photo at right.

The student helpers they employee better have customer service training or something cause at present they all seem to hang around the front desk and chat away not making the place very inviting while the change rooms and equipment areas are a mess.

Should be a full time person and not just student help as students are so transitory hard to build up a good staff that way, but cheap or so it appears on paper.
While there will be some growing pains, there will be income produced and some taxes generated.

The bigger picture is that this facility will be one of the few that will not only change the physical landscape but also the social landscape of our City.
You could be right Runner46 on the other hand this facility could turn out to be a big black hole into which tax dollars will be poured at a rate of over $600,000.00 per year.

The Centre is already on record for assuming an operating cost of $300,000.00 per year from the City and $300,000.00 per year from UNBC, this is after taking into account income produced. Since this facility is jointly owned by UNBC and the City of Prince George, I'm not sure where you will be generating any taxes.
