Prince George City Council has approved spending $5,000 for the costs associated with a rally to be held on September 5th.

The rally is to  voice  opposition to the preliminary report of the BC Electoral Boundaries Commission.  That report calls for one less MLA in Prince George.

Councilor Murry Krause is the appointed representative on the  North Central Municipal Association which  is made up of 44 communities.  The NCMA  spent  most of last weekend discussing the issue, and  is developing an emergency resolution to send to the UBCM  convention set for  later September.   The Union of BC Municipalities takes municipal issues to the Province.

The President of the NCMA  will be attending the rally and will  make a presentation to the Electoral Boundaries Commssion on September 5th.

The methodolgy for the changes is all wrong says Mayor Colin Kinsley. "The Electoral Boundaries Commission  says Prince George should have one MLA, yet, all of North Nechako, and the Hart Highlands will  be part of  another riding so it just doesn't make any sense."

Councilor Don Zurowski pointed out that  while  northern B.C. may only have 7% of the population, it  encompasses  70% of the land mass.

Councilor Sherry Sethen says the rally set for the 5th  of September  is a time to show unity  "It is a time  for us to stand together as a community  to how what we expect from our Province."

Council has  also passed an official resoution to oppose the preliminary report of the Electoral Boundaries Commission.

The Electoral Boundaries Commission public consultation sessions will be underway at the Coast Inn of the North  that same evening that the rally is set for the Civic Centre Square.

Somehow, it always seems that whenever electoral boundries are adjusted,it always favours the government in power at the time.
No suprises there!
