It has taken two years, but the Northland Dodge Healthy Children Fund has reached the halfway mark.

Northland Dodge owner, Brent Marshall today presented the Prince George Regional Hospital Paediatric Unit with a cheque for $38 thousand dollars. That brings the donations to more than $500 thousand dollars, past the half way mark to the pledged $1 million.

This money was raised through the Charity Golf Tournament that was held in conjunction with the Treasure Cove Hotel and Casino..

Marshall says the milestone means they have sold over 5,000 vehicles over the past two years, as $100 dollars from the sale of every vehicle goes to the fund.  The money is used to buy equipment, like the heart monitor shown in the right of the photo above.

For Marshall it isn’t just about giving back to the community, although that is important.  “I have two kids, and I had to fly them to Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, so I know what its like to have a child who needs care.”

Marshall offered thanks to Northland’s customers and staff, “and share my appreciation of an exceptional staff for all of their support in providing excellent health care to children and families in our community.

Why do politicians show up for an event like this ? If they funded things correctly all these people wouldn't have to work so hard fund raising to be able to supply our hospitals.

Seems kind of shoot yourself in the foot thing to do.
Pretty pathetic when (well intentioned) car floggers have to fund our public health care system.

I agree that Shirley Bond has no right to be standing there, grinning like a fool.
I will disagree with "Well Intentioned"

Don't get me wrong, I encourage Northern Health to take what money they can get, regardless of it's source...the truth behind this act of charity is that it will (likely) go to help our community...so kudo's.

But don't kid yourself that this is an act of pure charity...but pehaps, as a scourned customer, I'm jaded.
Yes, there is Shirley Bond with the same big smile on her face when she was sitting at the Cabinet table in 2002 when they decided to peddle BCRail, shut forestry offices and dump staff across the north who today would be helping with the present crisis, and take warm lunches away from hungry children.
Good points and well taken!
Politicians never seem to think of it in terms of shooting themselves in the foot!Their large ego's don't allow for that.
This does in fact show just how poorly funded our health programs really are.
Never pass up a photo opp I guess!
And by the way,Shirley Bond grins like that everytime she thinks of the fat pension she will be getting, hopefully very soon if we are lucky!
gonefishing - you have a good point...who do you think is REALLY funding these "$100/car" donations?...do you really think that it's coming out of the owners pockets? I highly doubt it. More power to this dealership though...they've done a fantastic job of promoting themselves and they look like heroes, and the Children's Fund gets more money, so I guess it's a win/win situation.
The real question is why a supposedly non-biased news source would repeatedly print glowing stories about our local elected officials? Is this how St. Ben gets his lifetime achievement awards in journalism? Is this what passes for journalism these days?
I’m confused HepCat, is this a glowing story about a local elected officials or is it about the Northland Dodge Healthy Children Fund reaching the halfway mark. Most will probably agree, Bond has no right to be there but to blame Opinion 250 for printing her name under the photo that she should not have partaken in seems somewhat misdirected
Hmmmm the dealership donates money from sales? The money comes out of our pockets because we are the ones providing the funds for those sales. It just comes out of their outlandish profits they make on new and used vehicles. It's no skin off their backs when they make 2000-5000 per vehicle. But look who gets to make a tax deduction on charitable deductions??? NOT US, the ones who provided the cash in the first place! Hmmmmmmmmm indeed!
Hey, this guy marshall is just a smart businessman. He gets good press, a tax deduction on the donations, AND we get a boost to our so called system, which hopefully really does benefit some kids.
I would like to say, and I hope you see this Brent, the down side for me at least, is that your dealership has become so hard sell, I cannot stand to go near it. The people I have dealt with there (since 1997) cannot remember your name once they have their commission. Add to that the frustration of attempting to drive onto your overcrowded lot, and it sure is impeding this repeat customer from returning.
As to what Ms. Bond is doing, is it not obvious? With her affliction (permagrin) she is inexorably drawn to the spotlight, like a moth to a flame. (sorry Shirley, I could not resist)
metalman.
I agree that this dealership is an extremely annoying place to try and do business!
I tried to buy there a year ago and ended up walking.
Very high pressure and rude sales people if you are not playing their game!
I left and bought a Ford and my wife bought a Gm.
awww he won't listen...he's too busy out driving his lambourghini.
