Gas Prices Increasing

Watch for the best price for filling up your vehicle.

Some gas stations in Prince George have boosted the price of a litre of regular unleaded to 114.9

That’s up a full five cents from the price offered this morning. (109.9)

Not all gas stations have increased prices.  As of 4:00 this afternoon, there were some (the Chevron at 15th and Central, the Esso at 5th and Carney to name just two) that  were still  offering regular unleaded at the lower price.

It was noted the Husky at 15th and Central West, and the Turbo at  Foothills and 15th  had boosted their prices to the new mark.

Oh wow...what an awful suprise!
We NEVER would have expected this now would we?
What a load of crap!
It was also announced today that U.S.oil inventories are at an all time low and that will put big pressure on canadiain inventories.
Again,no suprises there, but it might be a good idea to by some oil and gas stocks!
I read on the web that 23,000 retail outlets in San Francisco and California have filed a class action lawsuit against the major oil refineries for fixing the price artificially high and are seeking damages in the millions for each of the 23,000 retail outlets party to the class action lawsuit. They claim to have been gouged in the tens of billions of dollars over the last 6 years.

I see a valid case for similar action in regard to Husky Oil here in PG which is selling based on American markets, yet is an isolated market on its own. I think if you had 500 stations in Northern BC get on board we would have a dam good case in light of the 90cent per litre gasoline in Eastern Canada for the last 4 months. Problem is most gas stations in these parts are oil company owned and not private, so Canada's monopoly laws restrict our ability to provide market prices in a transparent fashion actionable through collusion laws.

When you take a 25cent monopoly profit off of every litre of gas sold it should be obvious to all that our largest tax is not for government, but rather for oil company monopolies.
No, that increase is not a surprize, but it is obscene! Way back in the good old days when gasoline was dispensed by the Imperial gallon, this measly increase of only a nickel a litre would have amounted to 22.7 cents per gallon. Now if you tried to increase the price per litre by almost 23 cents, I believe there would be a huge public outcry. So, why do we do nothing more than grumble to one another?
metalman.
Must be a long weekend coming..the last camping and fish out...what a joke. Abosolutely Metalman..I agree.
I agree Chadermando, something stinks!
The politicians back the oil and refining companies of course!
They are all in bed together and always have been.
Hopefully,we are getting to the point where people have had enough.
A class action lawsuit might just be the answer, but it would have to be a strong one, with every retailer possible on board.
And after that, let's sue the government for lying!!!!

What really gets me is prices in the Vancouver area range from 99.4 to a high of 108.4. They are supposed to be paying a transit tax of 8 cents per liter. Obviously they are not paying it's us in the iterior of BC that susidize Vancouverites. For over a month gas prices in Abbotsford and Chilliwack have been around 95 cent p/l. The national average is set at 105 p/l. Why are we always paying 10 cents p/l more?
Captive market.
The lower drainland is so much larger and diverse, it is only natural that there would be more competiton thus lower prices for some items. We naturally think that because there is a refinery right here in our city that the prices should be lower. Well that makes sense, to us lay people, but not to oil company executives. They use the 'world market' price as their basis for establishing retail prices. I have always thought that unfair, that those closest to the source, say Fort St. John, should pay less, to reflect real costs. Prince George should pay more, because there is a pipeline and pumping stations to maintain in order to get the product to our refinery. Another related topic that really grinds my transmission is that those in the lower drainland pay less for natural gas than we who are 500 miles closer to the source! Exceedingly unfair!
metalman.
"Exceedingly unfair" is exactly right!
Unfortunately,it is also a purely political issue as well.
We all need to get that through our thick skulls!
Governments are the only ones who can make a change in the way gasoline, natural gas etc. is marketed.
The only thing politicians understand is votes, but we will never get people to stand together on any given issue so nothing will change.
It will only get worse.
So how DO we get everyone on the same page to put the political pressure on?
If we could figure out how do do that,we might be amazed at what we could do!
Seems the only time things are discussed is at election time and then it is just to shut us up.
After the election, nothing ever changes and we will bitch and go on about our simple, safe little lives.
And they know that.
REVOLT!!!
Let us rise up against our oppressors!
We will not be defeated, our cars can run on..................oh s#!t, gasoline is still the cheapest fuel.
Never mind.
