Ramsay's Parole Hearing No Longer A Public Affair
By 250 News
There will be no public parole hearing for former Provincial Court Judge David Ramsay.
Having served three years of his 7 year sentence for his involvement with young prostitutes in Prince George, Ramsay has applied for day parole.
When word of his request for parole spread, Carrier Sekani Family Services requested the hearing be held in Prince George rather than New Brunswick where Ramsay is incarcerated. The request was not granted.
Some of Ramsay’s victims, and their families were making plans to head to New Brunswick for the hearing, but those plans can now be cancelled, as the hearing will no longer be a public affair, and Ramsay will no longer state his case. Instead, his case will be reviewed next Tuesday privately by the National Parole Board, which will then issue its decision.
Ramsay was eligible for parole last year at this time, but waived his right to a parole hearing. His statutory release date is January 30th of 2009 and his sentence officially ends at the end of May in 2011.
