Ramsay Should Not Be Allowed Day Parole
By Ben Meisner
The National Parole Board did the right thing, former Judge David Ramsay should not have been granted day parole.
What Ramsay did in his breach of trust of his office cannot and should not be dealt with lightly. The fact that he has terminal cancer while a consideration cannot be reason alone.
The only missing link in the whole affair is the matter of the RCMP police officer who, it is alleged, had been involved with young prostitutes in this city around the same time as Ramsay. It should be noted here that it was an allegation only, never did the police lay charges. The RCMP did however bring him before their tribunal but due to the fact that 2 years had transpired since the beginning of the investigation, the disciplinary hearing was dropped.
The question of course remains , was the police officer involved in anyway with Ramsay?
Witnesses who were about to testify against Ramsay never did reach the stand , and it may have been an opportunity for these witnesses to point out others who they had been involved with.
Ramsay however pleaded guilty and no witnesses were called. If there were others involved, they escaped the system with that move.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.
