Well you might have done a great deal of swatting this past summer season, but the good news is, authorities are now saying they believe that we have escaped West Nile Virus for another mosquito season.

The virus had made its way west across the US  and was expected to hit B.C.  last year after reported cases in American States south of the province.

The northward migration into British Columbia has not yet happened according to the various health authorities across the province.

Meantime in the Prairie Provinces, 1800 cases have been reported this year up from 1500 last year. The increase has been blamed in part on the hot wet summer that was experienced this year. Five people have died from their exposure to the virus.

Prince George experienced a longer than normal season of mosquitoes this year due to the wet weather.  That was expected to make the risk greater for the production of the species of mosquito that carry the disease however, it didn’t  happen.
