A Prince George man is among a group of people to  be recognized for bravery in  rescuing two men trapped in a  Terrace area mudslide three years ago.

A release from the Office of the Governor General says the rescuers will be  awarded a national Medal of Bravery, saying their involvement in the rescue  was done  "without regard for their own safety."

Williams was  up to his neck in mud and debris, Jones was stuck in mud that was a metre deep and unable to  get free.  There was a second slide imminent.

Steve Korpi  joined Eric Haughian of Surrey, Murray Kuemper and Jason Souch, both of Terrace, used their hands to dig Jones out.

Roger Licht and Lloyd Rice, both of Montana, joined Terrace fire chief Randy Smith, firefighters Robert Larmour and Fred Euverman, as well as Sgt. Kevin Schur and Cst. Jason Barnhill of the RCMP,  in pulling  Williams  to safety just as  the second slide  hit.

The eleven  involved in the Terrace slide rescue are among 23 who will  be honoured at a ceremony to be held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa at a later date.
