A group calling itself W.A.T.E.R. (water across time our environment  responsibility) is seeking names for a petition in the community of Valemount to prevent a second company from establishing a water bottling plant near Valemount.

The group argues that under the present laws a company may extract up to 75 litres a second (989 gallons a minute) without government environment assessment.

The group says they are concerned with the future recharge rate, the surrounding environment, without monitoring for volume, seasonal limits without royalties and without protection for domestic users present or future.

The group also encourages people to join the Boycott bottled water advocates.

The group looks to legislation introduced in Uruguay to recognize the fundamental right of water in that country.

Anyone wishing to find out more information or to offer support to W.A.T.E.R. can  visit their website at    http://www.valemount.org/water

Seems like lately where ever you go there is some asshole against development.
The majority of people hate change. Even for the better.
Water is right up there with oxygen. We all need it and have a responsibility to share it with those who don't have it. Let's develop some boundaries that everyone can live with and share our resources. Chester
i dont understand all the fuss about water. Its the same water some dinosaur pee'd out millions of years ago.....
I really don't see much in the way of serious issues with bottling water as long as the companies are monitored as to the volume they are pumping out amd what they are putting back in.
There is lot's of water out there, but keeping it clean is the biggest problem!
Suprisingly,in this day and age, with all our technology, some communities actually have water that you cannot drink out of the tap!
That is a disgrace!
I would think that fixing that problem is a bigger priority than putting it in bottles!
But then,I NEVER drink water....I know what fish do in it!!!
we complain about gas prices, while some fools pay $2.50/L for bottled water that's nowhere near as good as the stuff coming out of their tap. hilarious...
