You Want Public Inquiry Into Railway's Operations

Should there be a public Inquiry into CN’s operations and safety record in B.C.?

That was the question Opinion250 put to you last week.

Here are the results:

Yes   1480   81.8%

No       330  18.2%

Railways are federally regulated, and any public inquiry would have to come from the Fedral Government.  Prince George –Peace River M-P Jay Hill has already stated his personal view is  that a costly  and time consuming public inquiry is not the way to go.  It would seem the only one making the call at this point is the provincial NDP MLA .

No suprises here, but it will not happen.
No way the government will let it happen!
Too many question could be asked in regards to the entire CN/B.C.Rail deal and that's the last thing they want to see!
Nice try.
The NDP MLA doesn't have to write a cheque, that's why she/he is asking the taxpayers to fund a Public Inquiry.

How about a Public Inquiry into continuous utter disrespect of taxpayers' money?

"...Too many question could be asked in regards to the entire CN/B.C.Rail deal..."

Quoted from memory: 'The sale of BCR would not be reversed/undone in case of an NDP election victory.' (James).

It's done, it's here to stay.
I agree the deal may be here to stay, but that doesn't mean it should be forgotten!
And it also doesn't mean CN should get to do as it pleases without answering to the taxpayers of B.C.!
The more governments are questioned and put under the microscope, the better the job they do!
The same applies to CN.
When we are not allowed the right to question anymore,we are big trouble.
You are right about questioning CN's operational record, of course. But as far as the "entire CN/B.C.Rail deal" goes it's water under the (Cameron Street) bridge as the deal is for a 99 years time period.

We have the right to ask questions but that doesn't mean we will always get meaningful or truthful answers.

Another derailment today, by the way!

Rather than waste money on a Commission that supports the official position, better inspections, with transparency of operations, would be a better option.
They are also pulling 20 to 30km of old bc rail track (that the province payed for) up in the sustut and minarette areas and selling the steel for $30.00 per foot.Just another example of how this corp is pulling the wool over the public's eyes.
Your right Diplomat.
The deal IS for 99 years, but we still need to question the methods and the process behind getting it done to insure it was in fact all above board.
Notice we don't hear much on the Virk/Basi case?
Funny how these kind of things get dragged out, sometimes to the point where they just disappear into the ozone?
So how many derailments DOES this one today make so far?
