A resolution from the City of Prince George has received approval from the delegates to the Union of BC Municipalities Convention in Vancouver.

The resolution called for the Province to share a portion of the 14.2% tax it collects on gas sales with the communities where the gas is sold.

Other resolutions approved called for:

  •  the Province to  revise the  minimum wage to $10.00 per hour and for
  • improvement to the Railway Safety Act

One resolution which caused a great deal of discussion called for municipal elections to be held every four years instead of three.  The rationale being that under the current three year time frame, junior Councillors take about a year to get up to speed on process, then have just one full productive year before being pushed back into pre-election mode. The resolution was approved, and the UBCM will now lobby the Provincial Government to make the necessary legislative changes to extend the municipal terms to four years.

Nearly a full compliment of Prince George City Council is attending the UBCM Convention in Vancouver.   The  Prince George  delegation has held positive meetings with Ministers from several Provincial Government Ministries to discuss everything from bio-energy and the sale of excess power to the  grid, to financing for Pacific Gateway related projects.

The types of jobs that pay minimum aren't meant to support a family on. Making it 10 dollars an hour will only cause inflation.
