The Northern Lights  Festival  is getting close to set up but it needs a little help from City Hall.

The Festival, which will be on Connaught Hill from the 28th of November through to the 11th of January, will feature  10 major animated displays, 77 thousand  static lights and three fireworks displays.   In addition, there will be 200 thousand lights  and displays throughout the City.

The timing of the display is meant to co-ordinate with the  Festival of Trees and the light up of lights in the Civic Square.

The Festival Committee has  asked Council to  include the costs of snow removal from Connaught Hill and the Civic Centre area and that  the Committee not be charged a  venue rental fee for the use of  Connaught Hill during the Festival.

As a third item, the Festival also requested  Council  cover the cost of setting up three flagpoles on Connaught Hill,  a cost the Festival Committee says  is not to exceed $5,000.

Council has referred the  requests to Administration to  see where the funding can be found.

Administration will have a report back to Council for the meeting set for the 15th of October.

The cost to view the display will be  $10  per vehicle ( maximum 7 people per vehicle) and the hours will be 5-9 p.m. on weekdays, 5-11 p.m on weekends and holidays.

The  Committee expects to start setting up the display  within three weeks.

With a cost of $10 per 7 people I doubt this will encourage visitors. We have so any delightful areas such as Candy Cane Lane which welcomes visitors without a charge.
