About 1,000 teachers with School District 57 will vote today on possible job action.

This is day two of three days of voting for 42,000 teachers province wide.   Results of the balloting will be announced Friday morning.

Meantime, the Labour Relations Board  has finished hearing arguments on  what kind of job action the teachers will be allowed to take.  The Board is expected to lay down the ground rules later today.  Already deemed an essential service, in the past, teachers have refused to issue report cards, administer tests or take on supervisory duties.

The Deputy Minister of Labour  is acting as a fact finder, and will issue his  report to the Minister of Labour  in about a week to ten days.

As a teacher myself, I take great offense to your characterization of myself and my colleagues as a bunch of lazy, money-grubbing people. I spent 6 years in college and university racking up a huge student loan. In fact I periodically go back to school at my own expense. Since government and school boards have continually slashed budgets, a lot of classroom materials are paid for out of my own pocket. And you try have two months off without pay! I am expected to do more and more for my kids, with less and less support from all levels... government, school boards, and parents. More and more parents are absentees, and give no support or help to their children at home. Teachers are just expected to take up the slack. Teachers were LEGISLATED back to work by the Liberal government. How would you like being turned into a criminal for exercising your rights under a collective bargaining agreement? Keep pushing teachers around... and you will find you'll be teaching your own kids in your own home. And we will see how well you fare!!

Off on a rant.....
Yes! Hang in there teachers! I can't believe the Labor Board can lay down ground rules of what you can or can't do. What ever happened to democracy in this province and country. I say strike and get the backing of others unoins to help out. It's been way too long of 0,0 and 0. And when the Liberals say the economy is booming, I say share the wealth instead of giving it all to their big coporate backers. You can sure tell it's pay back time.
